In Memoriam - Most Worshipful Brother Lloyd Blagdon of Keith Lodge No 17
The brethren of Keith Lodge no 17 and the entire jurisdiction mourn the loss last night of Most Worshipful Brother Lloyd Blagdon who passed away in hospital.
Brother Lloyd Blagdon was born August 28, 1945, in Harbour Breton, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland, and resided in Coombs Cove, Fortune Bay. Upon graduating high school in 1962, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy that August at the age of 16. He was stationed on the west coast, serving on ships and bases, until his transfer to Halifax in 1966, where he continued to serve on ships, submarines, and bases until his retirement in July 1995 as a Chief Petty Officer First Class Marine Engineer.
In 1969 he married the former Ada Amelia Keough of Aquaforte, Newfoundland. They had three children: a son (died 1970), a daughter born in 1971, and a son born in 1974. His wife passed away in 1993 after a two-year illness with cancer. In February 1999 he married the former Susan Lorraine Sullivan of Halifax; together their extended family grew to include three girls, two boys, parents, five grandchildren, and many brothers and sisters.
He joined the Loyal Orange Lodge in 1962 and received his degrees in Saint Augustine Lodge, Coombs Cove. In April 1973 he joined Keith 17 Lodge and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in November 1973. He served in all offices of Keith 17 and was Master in 1989–1990. He affiliated with Lodge Timberlea 136 in 1986 as a Charter Member, serving as Master in 1988–1990, and affiliated with C.W. Saunders Lodge 125 in 1996.
He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Emerald Chapter, serving as Chaplain in 1988. He joined the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in 1982 and received his 32nd degree in 1983, going on to serve in all offices of the Keith Sovereign Chapter of Rose Croix and serving as Most Wise Sovereign in 1996–97. He was a member of the Halifax Shrine Club and served on its Flag Patrol unit for a number of years.
He was Grand Director of Ceremonies in 1993–94 under Most Worshipful Brother D. Frank MacKay, and was elected Junior Grand Warden in 1996, Senior Grand Warden in 1997, Deputy Grand Master in 1998, and Grand Master in 1999-2000.
A Masonic funeral will be held on the evening of Friday, September 25, 2026, at 7 p.m., during visitation. The service will take place at Snow's Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS B3S 0E1.
Truly, a Masonic life well lived. All lodges will drape the Charter in his memory at our October, November, and December meetings.
