Member‑based organizations such as our Freemasonry, service clubs, professional associations, and community societies rely on a simple premise: the collective strength of the membership sustains the institution. Members contribute dues, volunteer labour, and professional expertise that reduce operating costs and allow the organization to maintain itself, grow, and fulfill its mission.
Yet embedded within this model is a structural paradox: the smaller the organization becomes, the more expensive it becomes to operate. This counterintuitive reality affects governance, finances, and long‑term viability.
