Freemasons in Nova Scotia are best known through benevolence, care for the aged, hospitals, learning centres for dyslexic children, and financial support for students pursuing higher education; but there is much more being done than is generally recognised.
The Masonic Foundation of
Nova Scotia
While all Freemasons’ Lodges throughout Nova Scotia practice benevolence in their own right, the Masonic Foundation of Nova Scotia is the body mainly responsible for the management and distribution of money for charitable purposes; including benevolent assistance given through the Assisted Home Program and shared funding with Lodges pursuing local community and bursary programs.
The Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Children - Halifax
Dedicated to improving the lives of children with Dyslexia, the Scottish Rite Learning Centres for Children provide quality, state-of-the-art tutoring, free of charge, to those with difficulties in reading and writing, and related scholastic skills.
The St Andrew's Lodge # 1
Sunshine Fund
The St. Andrew's Lodge Sunshine Fund is a charitable foundation established by the Lodge in 1967. The fund is administered by volunteers, therefore 100% of the donations go to the programs supported by the fund. CRA registration number: 891619181.. Tax receipts are provided for donations of $10 or more.
The Ernie Wilkes Scholarship Fund
This Ernie Wilkes Scholarship Fund aims to support four exceptional graduating high school seniors from local HRM high schools. Our goal is to provide financial assistance to deserving students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership skills, and community involvement. We believe that investing in education is crucial for the future success of our community, and we are proud to support this cause
Philae Shriners provides transportation for qualified patients
Philae Shriners primarily send children from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island to receive care in Halifax (IWK) or Shriners Hospitals in Montreal or Boston. We know that this can cause strain on a family, and that is why we are here to help with transportation costs!
Prince of Wales-Zetland # 9 donates Bariatric "Cuddle Bed"
Getting close to loved ones in care settings has not always been possible, but makes a big difference in palliative care environments. The ook snow ALL bed brings comfort to bariatric patients, but it has gained popularity as the "cuddle bed" because it is certified to use by two people, : one patient and one bystander. In partnership with The Queen's Hospital Auxiliary, Prince of Wales-Zetland Lodge contributed $14,500 to make this happen for Queens General Hospital in Liverpool, NS.
John Albro Lodge # 122 hosts the Annual Broom & Gavel Bonspiel for for Feed Nova Scotia
Since 2018, John Albro Lodge # 122 has been hosting this annual provincial bonspiel raising thousands of dollars to aid Feed Nova Scotia in the fight against food insecurity in our province.
