BECOMING A MASON

Becoming a Freemason means joining a global fraternity of men on the same journey, working together to become better and to build a better world. We accept men from all walks of life who demonstrate upright conduct and acknowledge a belief in a Supreme Being.

Masonic organizations around the world vary in their traditions and entrance requirements. For the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia, the basic requirements for admission to Freemasonry are:

  • Be a man​

  • Be a resident of Nova Scotia

  • Be a  minimum of 21 years of age, or 18 years of age, if the son of a Freemason

  • While there is no requirement to be of any religious affiliation, a Freemason must acknowledge a belief in a supreme being

  • Must demonstrate upright conduct and be of good moral character

The reasons people become Freemasons are are varied and personal to them, however, some of the most common reasons include:

  • A strong bond of brotherhood that helps combat feelings of loneliness and isolation.

How do I apply?

Candidates typically apply directly to the Masonic lodge that they intend to join. The best way to do this is to locate a local lodge where you live, work, or study and to approach that lodge directly and request information.​
