It was a big night on March 10th as Eastern Star Lodge No 51 held their installation of officers and RW Bro. John Cameron receiving his 55 Year bar attended by the Grand Master, MW Bro Andrew Beeler.
We're fortunate to have some biographical information on the life of our brother Cameron to share:
RW Brother John Cameron grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the son of Tomas Cameron, a Mason in the Hertford Lodge No. 54, which is also his home lodge. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1961 and served as an aircraft electrician, traveling all over the world until 1975, when he joined the Canadian civil service. He worked with allied nations at 5 Wing Goose Bay, particularly with he United States Air Forces and the Royal Netherlands Air Forces. When he retired from the military in 2002, the Netherlands made him a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau for his service to the Netherlands.
In 1975, he joined Polaris Lodge No. 17 in Happy Vally-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. That was also the year that he married Nora.
In 1985 he was appointed Right Worshipful Brother appointed by the District Grand Lodge of Newfoundland, Grand Lodge of England.
He became Master of the Polaris Lodge in 1979, the same year as his son David was born.
He was one of the original eight founding members of the Lake Melville Shrine club in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
He volunteered with Labrador Winter Games, and as coach and referee in the local youth soccer association.
In 1998 he became 2nd District Deputy Grand Master for District One, Labrador.
He served as Master in 2000 for the Polaris Lodge’s 50th anniversary. In 2000, he was also appointed Grand Lodge Ambassador to Ireland.
He moved to Nova Scotia in 2002 joining Easter Star 51 and the Philae Shriners.
In 2014 he served as Potentate for the Philae Shriners of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
