Ervin Arthur Marshall, born August 25, 1933, in South Range, Digby County, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital at 4:10am on May 13, 2025. He was the son of Gilbert and Dora Marshall. He was predeceased by his brothers Earle (Lennie), Guy (Lorraine), Vernon (Faye), and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Arlene Marshall (nee Finch), two daughters Carolyn and Susan (Mike), and three grandchildren Meghan (Neil), Rachel, and Ceilidh (Matt).

As a young man, Ervin went to Ontario working largely in retail for companies like Walker Press in Paris, Olivetti Underwood selling office equipment, London Life selling insurance, and Dominion Stores in Hamilton. He met and married the love of his life in Brantford on May 5, 1956. Moving back to the Digby area, he farmed, worked in the woods, and at Wilson’s Home Hardware where he was asked to take over as General Manager, a leadership position he held until his retirement. He merged what was then two stores into one and oversaw the building of the one location where it currently stands.

Ervin was involved in the community and was a financial supporter of many local endeavours. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Brantford, Annapolis, and Bear River. He was a Municipal Councillor for the Town and Municipality of Digby and served on the Boards of the Digby General Hospital Foundation, Tideview Terrace, and the Annapolis Valley and Area Board of Trade.

Ervin was a people person, who remembered a face if not always a name. He was always willing to help anyone and indeed, quietly helped many along the way. He had a great sense of humour, always ready with a chuckle and glint in the eye. He loved to share his perspectives and life lessons through stories. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He loved his visits with all the family dogs with whom he was very popular, sharing his toast and jam with them at breakfast. He will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Ervin often referred to healthcare providers as his “guardian angels” - from the VON nurses and homecare staff who kept him home and healthy for so long, the staff at Mahone Bay Nursing Home, and the team at South Shore Regional Hospital who nursed him back to health, on a few occasions, and then supported him at end of life. Ervin and his family are grateful for the kind and compassionate care he received along his journey.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD 1:00 P.M., FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2025 AT SOUTH RANGE CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 3901 SISSIBOO ROAD, SOUTH RANGE, DIGBY COUNTY.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mahone Funeral Home, P.O. Box 200, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay, NS B0J 2E0 (902-624-8241). Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.mahonefuneral.ca
